Not So Wild a Dream: The Legacy of Eric Sevareid
| A National Public Humanities Sympsium
Sepemtber 30 - October 3, 2010
Bismarck State College, Bismarck, ND
Eric Sevareid was a writer, war reporter, news commentator, and one of the Murrow Boys who invented broadcast news during World War II. Born in Velva, North Dakota, educated at the University of Minnesota, Sevareid moved to Paris in 1937, just in time to be recruited by Edward R. Murrow of CBS to report the crisis in Europe, and World War II, to the American people. Sevareid wrote one of the great autobiographies of the twentieth century, Not So Wild a Dream. The Eric Sevareid symposium will explore his life, his adventures, his writings, and his legacy, with a particular focus on his fourteen years as America’s principal public commentator on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite in 1963.
