| Marking the Land Jim Dow in North Dakota |
| |
In 1981 the North Dakota Museum of Art invited Jim Dow of Boston to photograph the State’s environmental folk art—that is, architecture, signage, sculpture, painting, grave markings, working shops, the stuff made by farmers during idle winter months, and all else that decorates the land. Over the course of a year, Dow captured over a hundred images. The initial commission was funded by Target Stores. |

| Old Walls Do Tell Tales |
| |
The pioneer stories of Buckstop Junction. "Old Walls Do Tell Stories" contains true stories of the buildings that collectively comprise the historic town of Buckstop Junction, located just east of Bismarck, North Dakota. The provenance of each building reveals its unique contribution to the settlement of the Missouri River Valley Region of central North Dakota. A cast of characters including a hard-of-hearing hotel owner and a prairie orphan turned town barber are among the pioneering men, women, and children you will encounter as you explore these dusty lanes. The old walls will tell you a great deal about homesteading history when you take this book home! |
