9/15/2009

A preview screening of the Ken Burns Public Television documentary “The National Parks, America’s Best Idea” is set for Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Bismarck State College’s Sydney J. Lee Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

“The series begins airing on Prairie Public Sunday, September 27 and this screening will showcase highlights from the film,” says David Borlaug, President of the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation, one of the sponsors of the event.

The preview screening event will be moderated by Clay Jenkinson and will feature the superintendents of the three National Park Service units in North Dakota. A reception will follow the 40-minute highlight film in the auditorium.

The series includes footage of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Interview subjects include North Dakotans Jenkinson and Gerard Baker, currently superintendent at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

Other sponsors of the event include Prairie Public, Bismarck State College, The Bismarck Tribune, Friends of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Friends of Fort Union/Fort Buford and Knife River Indian Heritage Foundation.
